Renovated Home

The great challenge in the full renovation of this home was working around the numerous structural pillars found throughout the available space.

THE ORIGIN

It was an apartment on the 11th floor, built in 1987. I still remember that first moment. Behind me, the mountains of Mijas; in front, the Mediterranean Sea shimmering under the sunlight. From a window to my right, I could see the entire Avenida de Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo, with its jacaranda trees in full bloom, covered in violet flowers. A 180-degree view.

THE PILLARS

Those pillars, which at first seemed to be the greatest obstacle, ultimately became the creative driving force of the project.

The first pillar became the axis of the kitchen, organizing the space around it. Another was naturally integrated into the headboard of the main bedroom. The third was incorporated into the en-suite bathroom, connecting it to the bedroom.

These pillars taught me that when you change the way you look at an obstacle, you begin to see everything you can build from it.

Sometimes the best transformation is not about adding or modifying, but about discovering what was always there and give it back to the space.

Some projects start with a floor plan,
others start with an idea.
